Since the beginning of the war, drones have become indispensable assistants of the Ukrainian military. They not only help reconnaissance, and adjust fire but also perform many other critically important tasks.
Drones allow the military to effectively detect enemy positions and adjust the accuracy of strikes. They became the eyes of the military on the battlefield, allowing them to quickly respond to changes in the circumstances on the battlefield. Now drones literally save the lives of the military, because in the absence of these “birds”, such tasks fall directly on human shoulders.
The VOL Charitable Foundation, which has been providing assistance to the Ukrainian army since 2015, launched a new project in July 2023: “Repair and adjustment of civilian drones.”
This project was a response to the urgent need for the restoration and maintenance of drones that are actively used at the front.
Thanks to the VOL project, the Ukrainian military receives:
Free repair and adjustment of DJI Mavic 3 and DJI Matrice drones of various modifications.
The opportunity to save significant money on repairs for the purchase of new drones, because all services are free for the military.
The relevance of the project is confirmed by the numbers:
In 3 months of 2024, VOL specialists repaired 1,268 drones. This is 3% more than in all of 2023, when 1,226 drones were recovered. The cost of repairing one drone is 10-15% of the cost of a new one.
Why have drones become indispensable on the battlefield?
The war in Ukraine demonstrated that drones are becoming indispensable assistants on the battlefield. They are used both for reconnaissance and adjustment of fire and for effective damage.
Intelligence potential
Drones can penetrate behind the front line and conduct reconnaissance of enemy positions without risking the lives of soldiers. This allows the Ukrainian military to receive valuable information about the movement of enemy troops, placement of equipment, and other important data.
Fire adjustment
Thanks to cameras on drones, the military can adjust the fire of artillery, mortars, and other types of weapons. This is possible thanks to good optics in drones: surveying the territory from a height and processing the already received information in real-time. Yes, drone adjustments reduce the use of scarce ammunition.
Mobility
Drones are highly mobile, allowing them to quickly move around the battlefield and perform various tasks. This makes them valuable tools on the modern battlefield and preserves the most important thing – human life.
Relatively low cost of repair
Compared to other types of weapons, drones are quite inexpensive. Nevertheless, the cost of a new drone is a significant item of expenditure – it is almost 100 100,000 hryvnias. The average cost of a new DJI Mavic 3 is $2500-2700, prices for DJI Matrice start from $5000 and reach $25000 depending on the configuration.
The VOL Charitable Foundation’s Civilian Drone Repair and Tuning Project is a timely initiative that addresses the critical need to support these important technologies. Thanks to the project, the military receives the necessary resources for the repair of drones, which allows you to significantly save money and direct them to other important needs.
